Flash Demo World - Product Tour Examples

Companies with solutions that are in a feature race, or those in well established industries might want to create a simple screen-based product tour.

While this is fine, it's a bit of a risk to spend money on such a demo because:

  • You have no idea where the visitor is coming from so you don't know if they already know what you're all about
  • You have no idea what the visitor's prior knowledge of the solution is so it's tough know where to focus your tour
  • You tell your competitors all about how your solution actually works (because you're unable to qualify viewers first)

If you're competing with other companies that provide similar products, or you just want to quickly show your particular functionility, here are some great examples...

B2B Product Tour: Oracle Sales Prospector

Here's a great example of showing the product while focusing on an organization's top-level goals...

Oracle Sales Prospector

Oracle Sales Prospector

Following a very brief business situation, it dives right into the product. But it doesn't just show a bunch of dull screens; it shows how the product improves sales productivity and effectiveness. Brilliantly, it walks the viewer through various usage scenarios using 3 fictitious salespeople—a new rep, an experienced rep, and an experienced rep who needs to close new business as soon as possible. As a result, the viewer gets contextual information about how the solution helps all stages of a sales process.

B2B Product Tour: Lyris HQ

Here's a great product tour. I guess they assume all their demo visitors already know something about why they would need the product because it dives right into it...

What I really love about this demo is, you're immersed in the product from start but the narration is all about higher-level topics like productivity and insight. Perhaps their audience already knows the business case and so this allows them to see the product without a bunch of dull screen shots. Nice and fast too with a clear call to action.

B2B Product Tour: GoldMine Enterprise

Although it's quite long (8 minutes), this demo is a great example of showing the product while focusing on business value...

Thankfully, they included a table of contents to get through the whole story. Following a very brief intro, the product is shown while the narrator discusses high-level concepts like tracking and visibility. And rather than wasting time clicking through screen-by-screen, it simply presents them while discussing the product's impact and usage. I would have liked to see a bit more of the large screen devoted to showing the product a little larger, and it would be nice to be able to navigate (via scrub bar) through each of the chapters.

Consumer Product Tour: Logitech Mouse

Logitech's computer mice are in a heated race against companies including Microsoft and Creative Labs. As such, they need to really dazzle the audience with stunning visuals...

Logitech Mouse

The demo has a nice, brief overview movie set on a motivating custom music track, then dives into feature details via menus. Click the PRODUCT TOUR button to view. Prospects who merely want to compare this product to competitors can jump right to the specs, which people always appreciate.

This is so over-the-top, I love it...

Sprint's Instinct The Phone

This defies the typical product tour. I guess that's because it was most likely produced by their ad agency with a massive budget. Click around, this one is a lot of fun.
